Datalink in Action: Making DEF Profitable in Retail

In 2010, the EPA introduced new emissions standards requiring medium- and heavy-duty trucks’ NOx levels to be reduced to almost zero. Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology in diesel engines and Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) have since grown in popularity as a response to the EPA mandate. By 2012, there were over 500 retail fueling stations dispensing DEF. Fuel retailers wishing to capitalize on the new demand for DEF struggle with the immense cost and labor associated with installing a permanent DEF dispenser and above or below ground storage tank. The additional equipment and certifications needed, as well as the POS considerations add additional weight to the decision.

Together with Veeder-Root’s EMR3 electronic meter registers and Datalink software, Titan CTS has developed a standalone DEF pump for retail applications. This pre-packaged, pre-certified device is the most cost-effective way to dispense DEF at a retail site. It stores, meters, and dispenses DEF in a way that works like any other retail fuel dispenser, while Datalink technology allows usage data to be seamlessly sent into the back office to be integrated into the POS already on-site.

More about Datalink:

Automated data capture works beyond the retail gas pump. Aviation, mobile fueling, and terminal applications, among others, can benefit from the elimination of human error that comes with the traditional manual ticketing process where fuel transactions take place. Veeder-Root’s wireless data capture solution, Datalink, is the most efficient way to manage custody transfers and inventory reconciliation. The software works by pulling encrypted transaction data in real time, straight from the meter register and into your back office, where it can be viewed securely within a locally hosted database. Datalink sends transaction data from the meter register to the server directly, without the need for a prompt, giving you better data going into the back office more frequently.

Datalink’s fully automated wireless solution eliminates lost, missing, and mis-written tickets that arise from manual ticketing processes and allows you to redistribute manpower formerly spent on ticketing to more productive operating areas of your business. This customizable solution can create reports by date, time, customer, or even driver and vehicle, among dozens of other options. Datalink’s customization options extend beyond automated reports. Developed from the direct input of major oil companies, Datalink can be customized to fit your business needs. With no recurring fees for use, Datalink is an investment in technology that can modernize your business’s reconciliation processes and increase manpower efficiencies.
