Leo Proost is a Hydraulic/Pneumatic Engineer, a Red Jacket Product Specialist, Petrol & Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG), and a Global Red Jacket Business Development Specialist. Born in Den Haag, the Netherlands, Leo brings nearly four decades of industry experience to the global Red Jacket team.
Describe your position within Veeder-Root.
My function within the Veeder‐Root team is to support the Red Jacket product line globally for Petrol and Autogas (LPG). I support and train our technical team and local installers/designers on how to design a pressure site and how to calculate the correct pump configuration. Put simply, my job is to make governments, oil companies, and local suppliers aware of the major benefits of pressure technology for pumping fuel, such as cost reduction, increased product lifespan, and environmental benefits.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I have had the pleasure and luck to travel around the world; I have visited over 110 countries from east to west and north to south and met many fantastic people, all with different backgrounds, from around the globe. I like to work with people and teach them how to increase the safety and reliability of their petrol sites.
What is your favorite experience you’ve had in the field?
I have a long list of great field experiences, but to name a couple:
- Introducing the Red Jacket LPG system to other global markets after achieving a great deal of success with Red Jacket LPG pumps in the Netherlands. (Now there are approximately 65,000 Red Jacket pumps in over 25 countries around the world.)
- Giving the keynote speech on the World LPG Association (WLPGA) congress in Brazil and Germany promoting Red Jacket.
- Being part of the Red Jacket setup on the first official legal LPG site in Turkey in August of 1996. Turkey is now one of the largest autogas users in the world with over 10,500 autogas stations.
Overall, though, my favorite experience has been meeting and learning from new people around the world.
What do you wish for customers to learn about Red Jacket?
I hope that everyone from oil companies to customers, installers, and service providers learn, understand, and accept the many safety and environmental health benefits of pressure technology. I see a long and growing demand for environmentally friendly cars and trucks. LPG is definitely one of the most sustainable fuels and will be for the next 3-4 decades, and Red Jacket can play a major role in that. The Red Jacket product line has proven to offer a highly reliable and functional system.
On December 31st, 2018, Leo will retire. "Until that day I will, still with big pleasure, continue my global support for the great Red Jacket product line for the simple reason that I do believe in Red Jacket and I am a strong promoter of clean, environmentally friendly automotive fuel such as LPG to build a better world for our children and grandchildren."
